PTA

Welcome to Fred A. Toomer Elementary School's PTA page! The teachers, administration, students, and families at Toomer all work together to make our school a great place for our students to learn and thrive. We are proud of our school and our community spirit and we want to help all families feel a part of the school community and be better able to support their child’s learning at home. 

Our goal as a PTA is to provide a space for Toomer parents from all three of the school’s feeder neighborhoods to get to know each other, build meaningful relationships with each other, offer support to each other, and learn from each other how to best advocate for all Toomer students. 

Additionally, we align our efforts with the priorities identified by school leadership to improve outcomes for students and strengthen the entire school community.

These are our current projects and initiatives:

• Organize and host Screen on the Green (Fall), a Family Dance (Spring), and Parent Coffees (Fall & Spring)
• Recruit volunteers to support school and PTA events as well as help out in classrooms
• Provide dinner at all family engagement nights
• Host Let’s Talk about Toomer and King panels for prospective parents to hear more about their neighborhood schools
• Run an online Spirit Store
• Organize monthly Dine Outs at neighborhood restaurants 
• Maintain a Uniform closet for use by all Toomer families
• Organize and fund teacher appreciation efforts
• Send weekly announcements & monthly newsletters
• Engage with the community on social media
• Create a digital parent resource library
• Help parents navigate questions and/or concerns
• Raise money to support the school outside its budgeted expenses

Officially join the PTA.  Donations for the PTA will always be accepted in any amount and in the 2024-2025 school year. Communications & Outreach Committee

The Communication/Outreach Committee handles all the PTA communication to the Toomer community, as well as efforts to engage families in our three neighborhoods. Main responsibilities include:

• Maintain an annual communications calendar
• Manage email communication and social media channels
• Graphic design 
• Videography & Photography
• Host quarterly meet and greet coffees at Amani Place
• Help amplify advocacy efforts/opportunities at the school/district/state levels
• Create and maintain a digital parent resource library
• Coordinate and recruit parents for “Let's Talk about Toomer” and “Let’s Talk about King” panels

Events Committee

The Events Committee handles all the planning and logistics of PTA events throughout the year. Main responsibilities include: 

• Maintain SignUp list for volunteers for all events throughout the year
• Maintain Toomer calendar to ensure PTA events are listed and updated
• Organize volunteers to lead events throughout the year and ensure logistics are managed for events, in coordination with the school, including: Back to School Picnic; Family Engagement Nights; Screen on the Green; Fall Festival; Winter Holiday Concert; Lanta Gras; Toomer Family Dance; Black History Month performance; Supporter Appreciation Breakfast; and End of Year Picnic.

Impact Committee

The Impact Committee handles all the PTA fundraising efforts. Main responsibilities include: 

• Organize & execute the Giving Tuesday individual giving campaign
• Organize & push out business sponsorship packets 
• Organize Dine Outs and other community fundraising efforts
• Track donors and ensure donors are thanked for their contributions
• Research and pursue relevant grants as possible 
• Explore and implement community partnerships where possible

Teacher Support Committee

The Teacher Support Committee handles all the PTA efforts to recognize and honor the hard work of our teachers.  Main responsibilities include:

• Plan & organize Teacher Appreciation Week
• Ensure the teacher work rooms are stocked with coffee, creamers, snacks for teachers
• Plan & organize any efforts to help with needs around the school, e.g. closet clean out/ organization
• Plan other teacher support efforts throughout the year, e.g. “Chalking the Walk”
• Work with School Administration to maintain the SWAG Closet
• Help recruit classroom volunteers
