Toomer's Annual Family Math Night: A Guide for Families
Welcome to an exciting evening of math adventures at Toomer's Annual Family Math Night! Join us for a night filled with fun, learning, and lots of kid-friendly activities.
Why You Can't Miss This Event
Toomer Math Night is so much more than just numbers and equations. It's an opportunity to:
- Make math accessible and engaging for the whole family.
- Connect with teachers and other parents in a fun, supportive environment.
- Discover new ways to enjoy math together. (Yes, we said “enjoy”!)
What to Expect
Dinner Provided by the PTA:
- No time to cook? No problem! Enjoy pizza from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM before diving into the activities.
Flexible Schedule:
- Families are invited to explore various stations throughout the school at their own pace. Drop in anytime between 5:00 and 6:30!
Exciting Activities
- Estimation Station in the cafeteria, where students will use their math skills to estimate height, weight, length, and money.
- Guess that Phrase where families can go to each class solve a word problem and get a letter. After they have received each letter, they will unscramble the phrase.
- Math Bingo and Math 24 games to challenge problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Visits to grade-level classrooms where families can take home a math game to play together.
- Prizes and giveaways throughout the night—plus a whole lot of fun!
Tips for Parents
- Get Involved: Participate alongside your child in activities to make the most of the experience. If you’re into it, they will be, too.
- Ask Questions: Engage with teachers and volunteers to learn how to support your child's math journey. “New math” can feel different than the methods parents learned. Embrace it together by talking to your kids’ teachers to understand how and what they’re learning.
- Stay Together: Ensure all students are accompanied by an adult throughout the event for safety.
